This is Billie's Boon. He started life as the Equine Collection Mule Foal. These resins are porcelain filled, and weigh a TON. They are also attached to a beautiful wood base, and have thick wires in their legs to support the weight of the porcelain. I bought this cute guy a few years ago, and he waited patiently to be worked on. I finally got up the courage to remove him from his base in September of 2006; and after some arm-burning experiences (from hot flying metal shavings from the wires), I was able to part him from his base and get him to stand without wobbling. I resculpted over his old mane and tail, stuffed Apoxie in his ears, gave him a little pooter shoot, and resculpted his hooves--including some fine fuzzy hair around his ankles. He sat unpainted from March of 2007 (yes, I work slowly during the winter months!) until the need to help Zana adopt RC Laney (see story here) moved me to ask a fellow hobbyist--one of my FAVORITE artists in the hobby, mind you--to donate a paint job on the little guy. She agreed, so we put him up for sale unpainted, and I took offers on him with a FREE paint job of ANY kind from Billie Campbell. Because this hit right at Christmastime, there were not a lot of takers. We allowed time payments, and when I still didn't get any bites, I asked the TIBBP Board Members if it would be okay if I made an offer on him with time payments. They all said I could, as long as I paid him off within 2 months. EEK. So, I put up my offer. Shortly after that, we had another offer pop up--and it raised my offer--but I ended up WINNING the high offer...woohoo! So, off to the painter he went; I paid my down payment to RC Laney's adoption fee, and I was about to get one of my most favorite painters to paint something that I had created--and I helped my friend bring home her PMU mare...how awesome was THAT? |
