X's Darknight Delight

Introducing X's Darknight Delight. This boy is super special. He came into being when my friend Xavie asked me if I could sculpt a Stablemate Arab into a particular pose: one that made the horse either look like it was turning around to nose a riders foot, or like it was close to a person who was leaning on his head/neck and he was looking at them at an angle. Breyer's Old Mold Stablemate Arabian Stallion called out to me to use him for the work. I got to sculpting on this guy, and he took quite a bit of work. Head and neck were removed; holes were drilled in both parts (body and head), and a new wire-reinforced neck was sculpted, which made his whole front end need new chest muscles and shoulder muscles shifted; stallion parts were added; and a new mane and wire-reinforced tail were added. Lost of sanding and a coat of primer and he was ready to paint. ***At this time, it came to my attention through an AMAZING group of people on a Yahoo Group called Resins by Randy - run by Deb Buckler of THE Resins by Randy resin producers - that there was a large group of PMU Draft Cross Foals going to slaughter in Canada if they could not find homes and get adopted by April 15th of 2007. The farm that was trying to save these foals (and MANY Adults as well) is called The Animali Farm, and is run by a few dedicated women who go above and beyond the norm to try to rescue as many PMU horses as possible. They rely on outside donations to help cut the adoption fees and feed horses until adoption can be made, and Deb Buckler spurred what became an amazing campaign to save these beautiful foals. To learn about PMU and the Animali Farm click here.*** I talked with Xavie about possibly donating this horse to the cause since time was short and those foals needed money immediately and he was the only thing I had completed and ready to paint. She agreed without hesitation and this guy came to life. Handpainted in acrylics to this handsome black Arabian Stallion, he went up on the Model Horse Sales Pages as a 100% Donation to the Animali Farm to help save the Draft Cross Foals. I am happy to say that this boy was purchased for a handsome price by my good friend Melissa Wilson who jumped in with both feet and stole the bid away with a very generous offer. I kicked in the difference and between the three of us (myself, Melissa and Xavie) we raised $150 from the sale of this boy and donated the money to the colts and fillies. I am so proud to have been part of the rally that saved the life of 20 foals: ALL 20 were adopted in time! It was a stress-filled time period, but it resulted in success - and we owe it all to the valiant heart of Deb Buckler who with one little word and her OWN PMU foal Indigo Blue as our Poster Child was able to set in motion an amazing fund raising campaign in the Model Horse Community to save those lives. Thank you Xavie for donating your guy, thank you Melissa for buying him, and thank you Deb Buckler and all the gals and guys at Resins by Randy for such a wonderful experience! Melissa named this handsome guy X's Darknight Delight...and it fits him well. X's Darknight Delight is now owned by Xavie, who received him as a gift from Melissa. [Web Manager's Note: As of March 2008, Janice has devoted hundreds of hours of her own time and effort to the saving of these and many other PMU horses.]
