Introducing a unique plaque, Pickles, sculpted by my good friend Kelly Savage of the UK. You can see more of Kelly's work on her website here. Kelly donated this Pickles Bust to TIBBP in December of 2007 during TIBBP's heavy fundraising for the Pregnant PMU Broodmares in Canada. I was unable to get to Pickles due to so many other TIBBP things going on at that time, but I finally had a chance to get her prepped and ready to paint around May of 2008. This Pickles actually talked to me a lot about color, and was a HE, not the originally-intended she. He wanted to be a grey, but I had to try something new. So, I painted him entirely black with a nice blue/black sheen. I then handpainted EACH grey hair, starting with the whorl on his forehead and working my way down the bridge of his nose. It was a long process, but it worked quite well, and I am pleased with the technique. In retrospect, I think I would have done the hairs even tinier, which means I need Glasses and a much smaller paint brush...better eyes and steadier hands might be good too! In any case, he sold BACK to his donator, Kelly Savage, and 100% of his sale went to help real horses in need! |
