Fareed

This is Fareed, owned by Laura Hamn of Dreamdust Studios. After I repaired her Wixom Cinderella, Laura sent Fareed to me with one broken rear leg. The break was clean, she said. Well, when he got here, he had TWO broken legs and a cracked tail. Again, Laura packs amazingly well, so I am pretty sure that this boy already had stress fractures before she shipped him - and the shipment just finished him off. In any case, I was concerned with this repair, as not only was he a Resin, but he was also Airbrushed. I don't Airbrush - I handpaint - so trying to match an Airbrush is nigh impossible. The only thing that saved me was the color, which was very close to being straight out of the bottle. Keep in mind I had two legs to work with, so that was not a problem, and the breaks were clean in that no pieces were missing. So, the first thing I did was sand the pieces very lightly; dremeled holes and hollows inside all the 4 break areas; glued my nails into the upper portions of the legs first and let those dry; then I glued and Apoxied the bottom halves on. After that, I actually dremeled really lightly around the break, removing some of the resin so I could smooth Apoxie on around the breaks and make the break lines disappear. Lots of sanding later, the legs were ready to paint; but then I had to fix the tail. The tail is actually wired into the Resin so that is why it did not break OFF. So I had to dremel a bit of it off, realign it on the wire, and Apoxie around it. I actually totally got it done, painted the legs and tail to match, and sent off pictures to Laura - who pointed out his tail was not on straight!!! ACK! So I had to CUT the Apoxie back off and redo the tail all over again. You can see the finished product on pages 4 through 7...you cannot even tell he was damaged! Beautiful guy - one I am VERY proud to have fixed.
