This mare turned into a test project for a new color I wanted to try. When Breyer put out these New Molds (G3 for Generation 3) for Stablemates in 2006 and I saw this mold, I instantly thought back to a big HUGE Tennessee Walking Horse I used to ride named Big Red. He was a GORGEOUS Strawberry Roan Gelding, and I knew I wanted to try painting that color on her. She had her seams sanded and logo removed, and her heel bulbs and ankles were carved out to look not quite so clunky (a trend in all the new mold stablemates). She was then handpainted in acrylics to this striking Strawberry Roan Sabino, with painted-on mare parts. She turned out quite lovely, I think, and was sold on eBay to Tracy McDavid, who aptly named her Strawberries and Cream. So far, she has stormed the photo show world and swept up several ASB/TWH Breed wins and a few Gaited Breed Championships/Reserves as well. Congratulations Tracy! Update, January 2007: Tracy has sold Strawberries and Cream to Betty C. |
