This used to be Peter Stone's Chips Quarter Horse from the Gem Stone Series. He is comparable in size to the Breyer Stablemates. He had his seams sanded and his logo filled in; his ears, nostrils, jaws and heel bulbs carved; and his tail was banged. I added a bridle path in Apoxie Sculpt, and also refined his left ear a bit to better match the right one. He was then painted black in acrylics, and his blanket pattern was pasteled on. After 3 layers of white pastels, I added a bit of white acrylic paint to make it a bit whiter, then painted his detail work - such as 4-colored eyes with eye whites, a nice narrow blaze, mottling on muzzle and genitals, and a white sock. His hooves were painted with acrylics, pastels, and colored pencils. He was then signed in white on his belly (JFW 05). There was definitely something wrong with him when he was all done. Well, he was originally going to be a black Quarter Horse...but he insisted on being an Appaloosa. AH...the banged tail! Appaloosa's have a shorter, sparser tail! So, I took the dremel and carved off the banged part, and brought the tail up and thinned it a bit...all without scratching the paint! The tail then got repainted, and after several coats of matte finish - his eyes, nostrils and hooves were glossed - here he is! Sold 9/05 to Robyn Milne of Australia. Update, 10/05:"Kojo's War Drum" was shown in his home Country of Australia on the 24th of September. He finished 1st of 1 in CM Mini Appaloosa Breed, took Reserve Champion (of 5 classes) Custom Mini Sport Breed and took 1st of 4 in CM Mini Spotted (Color Class). Congratulations to Robyn! Thank you for the update! |
