Safari is making more realistic looking play horses every day. This gal started life as a Safari Pony from the Pony Toob set. She is just slightly larger then the Micro Mini's by Breyer. When I bought one of these molds from a talented customizer, Jodi Godfrey, I fell in love with this pony and had to buy a set just to get her. She reminds me of the Traditional Breyer Indian Pony but in reverse! So, I started out with the idea of painting her like my favorite first Breyer Babes. First I removed her logo, then carved her raised hoof, removed seams and sanded. She was primered and handpainted in acrylics. She started out with the round, soft edges, but she just wanted to be herself, not a remake of another horse, so she took off and this is where she ended up. She has tons of subtle details, and is still nice and soft looking, but she has the wild pony look to her too. I originally painted her for myself, but Christmas came along, and a very good friend of mine came to mind one day when I was looking in on my collection. This mare whom I named Tehya (Precious in American Indian), called out to me to be sent to Melissa Wilson. Melissa collects Indian Ponies, and this mare decided she wanted to go grace Melissa's Shelves. So, as of Christmas 2006, she is now owned by Melissa Wilson, and is not for sale. |
