This is Twirling Past Midnight (in front of Killing Frost). She was originally sculpted by Charlotte Donahue of Twirling Faster Studio, from a Classic Breyer Silky Sullivan mold. Charlotte was commissioned to do 4 Ponies In Hand (for harness), and when the group did not work out, Charlotte starting painting them all different colors, and this snotty little mare just did not fit in anywhere. I fell in love with the attitude she had and told Charlotte if she sold her, I wanted first dibs! Charlotte not only sent her to me, she sent her unpainted! This is the first collaboration (sort of!) by us, and she turned out beautiful! I re-primered her in Rust Primer, as I really wanted to paint her a bright Red Chestnut. I had a real horse all picked out as my color reference, and got to work on her. NOT! She balked and threw a fit! I painted her three different times and nothing worked! See those ears? See the set of her shoulders? The lip starting to curl out in a little nip? Well, she got her way in the end. Black. Not boring black, but black with some bay highlights in her groin and armpits and along her muzzle, with blue glints that spark out in the sun like a true healthy black coat will. She has fantastic 5-colored eyes! She is everything you could ask for in a little spirited mare. She has shown successfully as a Quarter Pony Mare, and has a GREAT showing future in Western Performance. You can see more of Twirling Past Midnight on Charlotte's page and on Patty Jones' page displaying Patty's fantastic Tack. Thank you SO much Charlotte! This mare is extra special and will be with me always. Twirl is NOT for sale. |
