Tenebrus

"Tenebrus" started life as Hartland's Classic-Sized Quarter Horse Foal (see page 10), who was painted poorly in Oils when I received him. This guy was born from a spur of the moment desire to sculpt something fun for the Halloween Class at Spokane Model Expo 2005. He has had the following work done: Ears, nostrils, jaws and heel bulbs carved; holes drilled into both shoulders and Apoxie Sculpt stuffed into those holes; then the Resin Bat Wings made by Tammy Abbey were inserted (see her Website Here); and Apoxie Sculpt was used to form the wing muscle into the shoulders. Then the wings were added to, to resemble the way bat wings attach, bringing the wing all the way down along the back bone. I also sculpted him a new forelock and mane, and added a hairy ridge that runs from his added mane to his tail. Holes were drilled into his nose and forehead, where bent nails were Apoxied in place, then Apoxie was twisted around the forehead horns to resemble goat horns, and the nose horn was left smooth...no idea why, but it looked cool! Apoxie was stuffed into his ears for the fuzzy look, and he was ready to paint. He was then handpainted in Acrylics, with a mixture of Blacks and several metallic colors...Blue, Green, and Purple...and his bat arms were painted with pinks and purples. The final touches were yellow eyes and a silver blaze and one silver sock. My son Stephen fell in love with him, so he is his for now! He took first place at Spokane Model Expo by "Popular Vote" in the Decorator/Fantasy class, with over 20 entrants. He was a FUN project, and I look forward to making a few more of these guys with Tammy's wonderful resin wings!
