Merrian was the second of two ponies I sculpted for Melissa Addison for her Live Show in 2007. You can see Merry, Merrian's other half, here. This girl sculpted up quickly--but she had problems with her face: the seams on her face were uneven: and when I carved down to remove them, the plastic there was seamed all the way through. So, I decided to give her a little bit of a roman nose, which--looking at her now--will need to be fixed some time down the road. She took the longest to prep and smooth after sculpting, and I spent HOURS sanding her. She also got shelved for a while. She also got painted second. Her pattern did NOT want to cooperate; I kept trying to keep her as close to her sister as possible; but in the end, she decided (must be that cocked-back ear and the shape of her face) to stray from her sister's pattern and to do her own. She also ended up with blue eyes, which I will also probably redo when I can figure out how to make them look more realistic. Practice makes perfect! She shipped out, with her sister, to Melissa in time for the Show; but Melissa was unable to find a buyer for them as a set. So, since I wanted to donate to the show anyway, I bought them back. Merrian and her sister are now part of my stable, and are NOT FOR SALE. They will both probably get a makeover down the road; if so, I will post updated photos here. |
